Tuning into Instinctive Feelings

Humans have the ability to understand things immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning. This is often referred to as a gut feeling, a sixth sense, or intuition.

Intuition relies on the powers of pattern matching. Our brains comb through past experiences and internal cues to help us make decisions. Intuition provides the base of our ability to understand everyday problems, stemming from cognitive abilities and evolutionary history. This relates to being connected to our true feelings and being present in the moment. Our nervous systems control how safe we feel in any given environment or relationship for that matter. Being in tune with our instinctive feelings allows us to be embodied and self aware of how we are reacting or responding to our environment.

Being in touch with your intuition is important: it connects the conscious and subconscious. It is a vital source for creativity, wisdom, and understanding. Overall, intuition serves in many ways as a valuable tool for navigating the complex world around us.

So, how does one tap into their “sixth sense”? Here are a few tips:

  1. Meditate
  2. Get in touch with your body
  3. Take a chance on following your gut feelings
  4. Notice others energy
  5. Spend time with nature
  6. Listen to your emotions
  7. Journal
  8. Take a break from technology

This is the first step toward self-awareness and accessing repressed emotions. As you become more attuned to your body’s sensations and connect with your instinctive thoughts, you’ll move toward a more enlightened state. This process serves as a solid foundation for preparing to engage in deeper emotional work in therapy.
